My academic qualifications explained

To some who have asked about my multiple academic qualifications, I have provided a simple blog for you to read about them and what they are for.


BDS: I pursued a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree. This program typically takes four years to complete and includes both theoretical coursework and clinical training. To obtain my BDS degree, I had to pass several examinations, including practical and clinical exams. The BDS degree qualifies me to work as a licensed dentist. More information about the BDS degree can be found on the website of the Singapore Dental Council. I am registered as a dentist in both Singapore and England.


MBBS: After BDS I went on to earn my Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree after completing a five-year medical program at Royal Free & University College London Medical School. This degree is granted after passing the medical board examination and completing a two-year internship. The MBBS degree qualifies me to work as a licensed physician in certain countries. I am not registered as a medical doctor in Singapore.


MRCS: I also hold the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) qualification, which is a postgraduate diploma that recognises my training and competency as a surgeon. To obtain this qualification, I had to pass a series of written and clinical exams. The MRCS qualification is awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England

MFDS: In addition to the MRCS, I hold the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) qualification, which recognises my training and competency as a dental surgeon. This qualification is awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. To obtain this qualification, I had to pass a series of written and clinical exams. MFDRCSI: I also hold the Membership of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MFDRCSI) qualification. This qualification recognizes my competency and expertise in the field of dentistry. To obtain this qualification, I had to pass a series of written and clinical exams. MBA: In addition to my medical and dental qualifications, I also hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. I did my Executive MBA at Bayes Business School (formally known as Cass Business School in the City of London) This degree focuses on developing my managerial and leadership skills, which are essential for running my dental practice. To obtain this degree, I had to complete a two-year program that included coursework in finance, marketing, strategy, and other business-related topics. FICD: I am also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD), which is a prestigious honor awarded to dentists who have demonstrated exceptional service to the profession and community. To become a Fellow, I had to be nominated by my peers and undergo a rigorous review process, including an evaluation of my professional accomplishments and service to the dental community. FICOI: Finally, I am a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI), which recognises my expertise in the field of dental implantology. To become a Fellow, I had to complete a series of courses and demonstrate my clinical competency in implant dentistry.
